Get Involved!

Heart of Horse Sense needs volunteers to help in a variety of ways, both with and without horses.  There are so many ways you can help!  This is an opportunity to work with an organization providing important and often life-changing services to our local community.

Our volunteers help at HOHS-funded farms with things like barn and farm support, horse care and support. Our volunteers also help the organization with events, fundraising, outreach & education, and more!

Saturdays on the Farm

Volunteering starts in mid March and continues until December each year. We meet most Saturdays from 9:30-12:30pm. Volunteers do farm service from 9:30-11:00pm and then practice horsemanship from 11:00-12:30pm with an equine specialist.

Our New Volunteer Pre-Application is Here!

Our volunteer coordinator after applications are processed. Volunteers will be required to attend a live or virtual orientation followed by a demonstration. We also require viewing 3 educational virtual lectures as part of the volunteer process. When all requirements have been met you will become an "active volunteer!" At that time you will be invited to join a private Facebook group to get notified about volunteer activities and events!

On Saturdays we do Service including:

scrubbing buckets

weeding labyrinth

cleaning arena office

projects to keep the farm shipshape

whatever else needs doing!

we also do Learning, including:

Assisting Our Monthly Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and Learning Tours and Demonstrations: Helping move horses and assist in the delivery of tours/demonstrations.

IF THIS IS YOUR FIRST TIME VISITING THE FARM, WE RECOMMEND COMING VIA LEICESTER HIGHWAY. DO NOT FOLLOW GPS DIRECTIONS; THEY ARE OFTEN WRONG AND/OR PEOPLE OFTEN LOSE SERVICE IN THE TWISTS OF THE MOUNTAIN ROADS!

From Downtown Asheville

Take 240 towards W Asheville. Take the "19/23 South" exit to West Patton Avenue. Stay on W Patton for several lights, looking for double right turn with signs saying "Leicester". Take that right onto New Leicester Hwy/63.

Stay on New Leicester Hwy/63 for about 12 miles, looking for Meadows Town Road (also known as 1001). Meadows Town is a right turn only. You will also see signs for "Piney Grove Baptist Church" and sign that says "To Marshall". Make that right onto Meadows Town Road. *(Meadows Town is 2 miles past the Trading Post Grocery at N. Turkey Creek Road).

Go 3 miles in; just across the street from Piney Grove Baptist Church you'll see barns with green tin roofs; that's us. Make a right into driveway with double green mailboxes: 7041 Meadows Town Road.

From Weaverville/Marshall (19/23)

Take Marshall exit 25/70 toward Marshall. Go to courthouse (old 25/70, not bypass), cross French Broad (you'll be on Bailey's Branch). Follow for several miles.

At intersection w/ Bear Creek, Bailey's Branch becomes Meadows Town Road. Approx. 3 miles from Bear Creek intersection you'll come to another intersection w/ Teague Road on your left and Graham Road on your right. A few houses from that intersection there is a double green mailbox: 7041 Meadows Town Road; turn in there! If you pass the Piney Grove Baptist Church on your right, you've just missed us.

From Asheville Airport

Take 240 towards Asheville. Take the "19/23 South" exit to West Patton Avenue (it is a left exit off highway). Stay on W Patton for several lights, looking for double right turn with signs saying "Leicester". Take that right onto New Leicester Hwy/63.
